What is Floating?

Who lives a completely healthy and stress-free life?  No one.  Our lives are full of stress and toxins from a variety of environments that continue to cause health issues for the majority of Americans.  Jonti Life LLC was born 8 years ago with the mission and vision to provide natural solutions to set people free from these challenges.  Introducing… drumroll…. floatation therapy!

“Floating” takes place in a soundproof, lightproof, 4-foot by 8-foot fiberglass pool filled with a foot of sanitary heated water that has been saturated with Epsom Salt.  This allows a person to float on the water’s surface with no effort, no external distractions and maximum comfort.

Floatation therapy was developed in the 1950’s and is gaining traction as more research is proving the health benefits of this relaxing, decompressing and beneficial health modality.  Many individuals float for the sensory deprivation and to escape from today’s stressors and technology overload.  Others float for the numerous health benefits.  Floating has been shown to improve sleep, as well as diminish stress, anxiety and depression.  Studies have shown that it increases the neurochemicals that promote a positive mood.  Joint and back issue (Arthritis, back pain, neck pain) sufferers have also reported a significant reduction in pain.  It has also been shown to have a positive impact on blood pressure.  (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/9759990)

A recent study published in February, 2018 http://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0190292 (Laureate Institute for Brain Research, Tulsa, Oklahoma, Oxley College of Health Sciences, University of Tulsa, Tulsa, Oklahoma, University of California San Diego, La Jolla, California) concluded that although more research in larger populations is needed, the results were significant.  “Participants reported significant reductions in stress, muscle tension, pain, depression and negative affect, accompanied by a significant improvement in mood characterized by increases in serenity, relaxation, happiness and overall well-being (p < .0001 for all variables). “

When it comes to alternative and natural health modalities, it is often stated “there’s no research to support the effects.”  But in fact, thousands of clinically controlled research studies do exist supporting many alternative modalities to include chiropractic, herbal supplements, essential oils, massage and now even flotation therapy.  Believe it or not, already 38% of the population uses some form or alternative or complementary healthcare.  And the 42.3% of these users, sought out alternative methods for the exact issues that floatation therapy can assist. https://nccih.nih.gov/research/statistics/2007/camsurvey_fs1.htm#health

Each year, more and more individuals are seeking more natural solutions to their health challenges.  It will be exciting to watch as floatation becomes a more well known health modality.
